About Dr. Ahmed Medhat El-Tamamy
Dr. Ahmed Medhat El-Tamamy is a partner at Cosmo Dental Center and an Associate Professor at Cairo University Faculty of Dentistry, where he teaches and supervises postgraduate clinical work. He holds a BDS, MSc and PhD from Cairo University and is a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MRCSEd). Over more than fifteen years of practice he has focused on dental implantology and orthodontics, and on the treatment planning that connects the two.
His clinical work centres on surgical implant placement, including guided surgery planned from cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) — a three-dimensional radiographic scan that shows bone volume, density and the position of anatomical structures such as the inferior alveolar nerve and maxillary sinus. Cases that begin with a CBCT-derived surgical guide place the implant in the position dictated by the final restoration rather than the position dictated by available bone, which improves both function and emergence aesthetics.
He manages the site-development side of implantology as well: guided bone regeneration for localised defects, lateral and crestal sinus lifts for the posterior maxilla, and staged block grafting where vertical deficits would otherwise rule out implant therapy. Full-arch rehabilitation with four or six implants and immediate provisional loading is a routine part of his caseload, planned jointly with the prosthodontic team so the surgical and restorative phases share one digital plan.
Because he also treats orthodontic cases, patients with a combination of missing teeth and malocclusion are planned in one sequence rather than passed between practices. Aligning teeth before restorative work frequently reduces how much tooth structure has to be removed later, and it is one of the reasons the clinic runs orthodontic assessment as part of comprehensive planning rather than as a separate service.
His academic role at Cairo University keeps his protocols anchored to current evidence — the osseointegration success criteria published by Albrektsson and colleagues, the systematic reviews of long-term implant survival, and the peri-implantitis prevalence data that shape maintenance recall intervals. Patients receive that reasoning in plain language during consultation, along with the radiographic evidence it is based on.
Treatment philosophy
Plan from the final restoration backwards, document every decision radiographically, and give the patient the same information the clinical team is working from.
